GFA - Over 50s stay top despite first defeat

Highworth over 50s stay top of the Gloucester league despite their first defeat during a rain swept evening at the Gloucestershire FA facilities.

Things got off to a bad start against Hereford when we conceded an early goal. However a Steve York turn and finish saw us draw level before Steve King grabbed the winner to give us a 2-1 win.

This was followed by a 4-0 victory over Quedeley, goals spread around the team from Gary Vitler, Kev Turner, Steve King, Steve York.

An impressive 7-0 win over Cheltenham Spartacus kept the evenings good results going with a hat-trick from Kevin Turner the highlight. The other goals coming from Steve King (2), Gary Vitler and Steve York.

Our final game against Abbeymead was a lot tighter affair and we came to rue our missed chances in the first half when Abbeymead took the lead midway through the second half.

Abbeymead held out and inflicted our first league defeat this season, final score 0-1.

Squad: Martin Sharkey, Gary Vitler, Glyn Evans, Steve York, Colin Smith, Steve King, Kevin Turner.
