The Autumn League at Bisham Abbey got under way with Highworth now facing tougher opposition after promotion to the championship after the spring league.

Our first game saw us up against our old adversarys Milton Keynes who took a surprise lead after Sharkey had made a good save only to see the ball deflect back into the net from an unsuspecting attacker.

We had the best of the game after that incident and equalised when Steve King broke clear and finished with ease. Final Score 1-1.

This was followed by a 0-0 draw with Godalming before we grabbed a well earned victory over South Reading courtesy of Gary Vitler, overlapping on the right wing and burying a neat stroke into the opposite corner.

After this we ended the day with 0-0 draws against Watford and then High Wycombe.

We sit second on 7pts, 2pts behind leaders Godalming.

Hats off to the squad as we had no subs so everyone had to play all 5 games.

Squad was: Gary Vitler, Colin Smith, Dave Mitchell, Martin Sharkey, Steve King & Steve York.

Sunday 28th July saw us enter the Darby Rimmer MND event in Salisbury, a 30 team tournament in aid of charity.

We topped our group with 2 goalless draws and a 1-0 victory over Spurs courtesy of a neat finish by Paul Watling.

Our quarter final draw was against the only team allowed to field younger players; Liverpool YTS, who had romped through their group with 4 wins.

Despite the age difference we managed to hold our own and thought we had taken the lead when Russ Lillington struck home a penalty at the end of the first half. However the referee penalised Russ for more than 1 step and awarded a goal kick which in fact should have been a retake of the penalty (ref see rules!).

Second half was again reasonably equal but Liverpool nicked a goal with a smart finish when we failed to pick up a man at a corner. Final score 0-1.

We then had one last game for placings which saw us run out 4-0 winners, Kevin Turner bagging himself a hatrick and Paul Watling getting on the scoresheet again.

Many thanks to Swindon Town FC who supplied the kit (we played as Swindon Town for this competition).

After a busy few weeks we took a mixed over 50s/60s side to play in the Bicester Invitational tournament with our squad consisting of Kev, Cookie, Paddy, Jimmy, Dave, Steve Y, & Mike.

We were loaned a keeper for the day so thanks to Frank for helping us out.

We were in a group of 5 and got off to a slow start with a 0-0 draw with Cherwell before getting an early win against Bicester, 1-0 the scoreline courtesy of a Steve York Screamer!

This was followed by a change of formation which didnt work too well and we lost 2-0 to Bracknell.

Mike nicked himself a goal in the next game with Steve adding a second with yet another ferocious finish as we edged out Oxford A 2-0. This meant we finished top of the group.

Our quarter final had us up against Oxford B and they were despatched in similar fashion to their A team with a 2-0 victory, again Mike and Steve on the scoresheet.

So on to the semi-final and we avenged our earlier group game defeat by beating Bracknell 3-1, scorers this time round Kevin with 2 and Jimmy adding a 3rd.

Our good form continued in the final with a 2-0 win over Brackley, Kevin again grabbing a brace. Well done to everyone involved today.
